March
Spring has sprung
Spring cleaning was in full swing here during March. I had a sort out of my leftover yarn drawer to take stock of what I have, and come up with a few plans. On the first sunny day, I washed all the handknit socks that needed it after winter and sorted them back into their box. There was also lots of gardening, but it’s all really paying off. The tulips are in full bloom, the third year of the original ones I planted making a return.
There was one seasonal yarn purchased, some self striping in the colourway Mini Eggs!

I also took some photos of me wearing my finished K1, P1 hats. The orange one with the scalloped edge omitted.

As always, I hope you enjoy reading what I’ve been knitting on in March and plan to knit on during April.
What I’ve finished knitting
Sophie Scarf
The only project I finished this month, that I haven’t already shared with you is this Sophie Scarf. It’s knit up in the leftovers from my Lanark Sweater, Wooly Knit British Wool 4ply in Burgundy and Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair in Bordeaux.

I managed to wear it into the office for a full day, so can confirm that even with the mohair it’s not too itchy.

What I’ve still got on the needles
Petty Harbour Socks
The first of two pairs I’m knitting as gifts, I really love this pattern (it’s my third pair) as over 50% of it is plain stockinette, whilst still having a lovely all over texture. I’ve only got about half of one foot left to knit, so these will be off the needles in no time.
The yarn is Ainsworth and Prin Classic Sock in the colourway Kerfuffle.

Fisherman’s Sweater
I’m pleased to report that the knitting on this sweater in March was much more successful than previously! I finished both sleeves and started the body.

However, I have had to purchase a couple more balls of blue yarn and they aren’t quite the same colour. I do have a plan though: to blend them in with what’s remaining of the original blue by knitting two rounds of the body in the new blue followed by one of the original. So we will see how that goes…
What I’m planning to cast on in April
White cable knit jumper
Purchased last September on a trip to Ireland, I have hopefully enough yarn to make myself an all over cabled jumper (because that was all I could fit in my carry on suitcase). I still need to narrow down my pattern choice, I’m thinking something vintage and have a long list to narrow down. Maybe some Instagram polls will help me decide.

Basic 4ply Socks
I’ve started the first of the two pairs of socks for my friends, and will hopefully start the second pair soon after I cast off the first!
Sophie Scarf
Again, I’ve got the second scarf to make with the leftovers of my Matcha Jumper. But I need to extend the jumper first, before I can make the scarf. Hopefully both will be done this month.
Ducks
I said I’d cast these on in March, but that didn’t happen, so Jemima Puddleduck, along with a couple of ducklings, by Claire Garland, will be an April cast on.

Final thoughts
While the weather may be warming up, I’ve got no spring/summer knits on the horizon. I’m not particularly drawn to them, and I have a few garments from previous years that I already don’t wear enough. So I am quite content, at least for this year, to keep knitting up garments with my woolly wools! Maybe in future years, when I have less of a stash I’ll be free to knit what I truly feel like in the moment and will once again be drawn to those lighter knits.
